The Satpura landscape is as compelling as its wildlife—an intricate world of sandstone ridges, deep gorges, ravines, valleys and dense forests. Teak, sal, bamboo and other mixed deciduous species create a richly varied habitat, including the fascinating meeting of sal and teak forests. This diversity supports an impressive array of wildlife, including tiger, leopard, sloth bear, wild dog, sambar, chital and the distinctive four-horned antelope.
One of Satpura’s most captivating residents is the Indian giant squirrel, an accomplished tree-dweller found high in the forest canopy. With its striking reddish-brown and wine-coloured coat, it is an emblematic species of the reserve and a particular delight for nature enthusiasts and photographers.

Named after the Satpura Range south of the Narmada River, Satpura has a fascinating history intertwined with the exploration of Central India. Captain James Forsyth of the Bengal Lancers explored these forests in the nineteenth century, and his celebrated writings helped bring the landscapes of the Satpuras to wider attention. Today, Satpura remains a remarkably pristine wilderness, offering a more intimate and immersive safari experience than many of the region’s better-known reserves.

Arrive at Bhopal Airport and proceed by road to Satpura Tiger Reserve, travelling through the scenic landscapes of Madhya Pradesh. On arrival, check in at your jungle lodge and settle into the tranquil surroundings of the forest.
Later, embark on your first Satpura Boat Safari on the Denwa River, a serene introduction to the wilderness. Glide along the river with the forested Satpura hills forming a dramatic backdrop, while keeping watch for birds and wildlife along the banks.
Return to the lodge to unwind and enjoy evening tea, followed by dinner.
Rise early for your first Jeep Safari at Satpura Tiger Reserve, accompanied by a packed breakfast. Venture into the reserve’s spectacular and rugged terrain, where sandstone ridges, deep valleys, gorges and dense forests create one of Central India’s most distinctive wildlife landscapes. Keep a keen lookout for tiger, leopard, sloth bear, wild dog, chital and sambar.
Return to the lodge for lunch and a few hours of relaxation. In the afternoon, set out once again for your second Jeep Safari, exploring a different part of Satpura as the forest comes alive in the softer evening light. Among the reserve’s special attractions is the Indian giant squirrel, an agile and strikingly coloured arboreal species and an emblematic resident of Satpura.
Return to the lodge for an early dinner and a restful evening amidst the wilderness.
Follow the rhythm of the previous day with another full day dedicated to exploring Satpura Tiger Reserve. Begin early with your fourth Jeep Safari, accompanied by a packed breakfast, venturing into Satpura’s rugged valleys, forested hills and dramatic wilderness in search of its diverse wildlife.
Return to the lodge for lunch and a few hours of relaxation. In the afternoon, set out for your fifth Jeep Safari, exploring the forest once again and looking for encounters with tigers, chital, sambar, gaur, sloth bear and other inhabitants of the reserve. Keep an eye on the forest canopy for the Indian giant squirrel, Satpura’s emblematic arboreal resident.
Return to the lodge after the safari for early dinner and a peaceful overnight stay amidst the forest.
Have a relaxed breakfast by the Denwa river at the Satpura Jungle Resort followed by check-out formalities. Bid farewell to the forest before your are transfered by road to Bhopal Airport for your onward journey, bringing your Satpura wilderness experience to a memorable close.
